Youth Choir fills the musical void left by state education cuts

ASH FORK, AZ —
Through musical notes and scales, Ash Fork local Kathleen Petty fills the silence left by state education budget cuts.

“Everyone has sports out here, but they don’t have music,” Petty said. “Sports you can do so long, but music you can play enjoy for the rest of your life. I think it’s also an important aspect of having a well-rounded education and becoming a well-rounded person. So I’d like to share my talents.”

Since last September, the former Seligman music and Spanish teacher has put her musical talents to good use and organized the Northern Arizona Children’s Choir, giving children in grades first through 12 a chance to enrich their musical side.
