Romantic music is an era of Western classical music that began in the late 18th century and is related to Romanticism, the European artistic and literary movement that arose in the second half of the 18th century. Music became more expressive and emotional, expanding to encompass literary, artistic, and philosophical themes. Since January our students have been immersed in the Romantic choral tradition through the study of representative works of the era. Set as an informal demonstration of Romantic choral styles and technique, the concert includes repertoire from England, Italy, France, Germany, the United States and Russia. Featured composers include Charles Stanford, Giuseppe Verdi, Gabriel Faure, Johannes Brahms, Amy Beach and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
