French organist and composer Joseph Noyon (1888-1962) was director of the choirs of French Radio. Sir Charles Villiers Stanford composed his popular Easter anthem in 1910. The 11th century religious, Saint Fulbert of Chartres, wrote the text. Ralph Vaughan Williams wrote his Festival Te Deum for the coronation in 1937.

English composer and organist John Bertalot (1931-)’s anthem recounts the story of Jesus’ life. The tune is an American Shaker tune known as “Simple Gifts.” American composer Horatio Parker (1863-1919) was taught by George Whitefield Chadwick and himself taught Charles Ives and Roger Sessions.

What we know as the Easter Oratorio began as a cantata for Easter Day
1725. Bach gave it the title Easter Oratorio when he revised the work in
1735. He further revised the oratorio in 1740. This is the version on our

French composer Hector Berlioz’ grand composition had its first performance in L’Eglise Saint-Eustache in 1855. The composer conducted an orchestra and choir numbering over 900 performers.
