Vox Grata Women’s Choir announces its upcoming Spring Concert – Songs on an Eastern Wind: Choral Music from Central and Eastern Europe.
The two most significant works on the program are Rihards Dubra’s “Missa de Spiritu Sancto” and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Six Choral Songs for Treble Voices,” Op. 15. Vox Grata Founder and Artistic Director Jeanette MacCallum noted: “With the exception of Rachmaninoff, all the composers represented on this program are contemporary (living) composers, and all hail from Russia (Rachmaninoff), Latvia (Ešenvalds and Dubra), Estonia (Tormis) or Hungary (Orbán and Miklós).”
Dr. John Semingson, Director of Music Ministries at Westminster, will accompany the Choir for the Dubra (organ) and Rachmaninoff (piano) works.
There is no charge for admission, but proceeds from an offering at the event will go to the Reunification Program of the Family Reconciliation Center. Vox Grata has chosen to support its special counseling program which helps meet the needs of families during the critical reentry phase following incarceration. Malinda Davenport-Crisp, PhD, LPC-MHSP, Executive Director of the Family Reconciliation Center, said: “We are honored and appreciate the enthusiasm of the women of Vox Grata Choir to encourage their incarcerated sisters. It is inspiring to witness women’s empowerment of one another to live their best lives.”
