When members of Tonna Male Voice Choir returned to their Manchester hotel after performing as part of Enjoy The Golden Jubilee Concert Of The Festival Of 1,000 Voices held at the Manchester Evening News Arena they decided to visit the hotel bar for a much deserved nightcap. While there they noticed a wedding party in an adjoining function suit and picked up several familiar Welsh accents.
On closer inspection they discovered the bride, Bethan Thomas, was originally from the Swansea Valley and her parents Gwyn and Beryl, retired social workers, still live in Clydach. Soon after they brought the entire hotel bar and reception area to a standstill as they serenaded the new bride and her husband.
Bethan, now Mrs Cunningham and living in Hulme, Manchester, with husband Nathan, said: “It was a wonderful experience. When the choir found out that I was from the Swansea Valley they just crowded round and started to sing these wonderful Welsh hymns.
