Voci Concert to Feature Baroque and Renaissance Masterworks

St. Mary Magdalen Church
2005 Berryman Street
Berkeley, CA

Voci Women’s Vocal Ensemble will present “Rejoice! Rejoice!” — three performances of stunning sacred renaissance and baroque masterworks, featuring the Jubilate Baroque Orchestra and soprano MacKenzie Covington, and showcasing works by Bach, Porpora, Hasse, Charpentier, Cozzolani, Vivaldi, and Victoria. Voci’s Artistic Director, Mitchell Covington brings particular expertise in the Baroque style.

The December performances will feature a rare presentation of Nicola Porpora’s inspiring work, Laetatus sum, featuring budding Bay Area soprano MacKenzie Covington. Porpora wrote two very different versions of this text for the young women of the Venetian Ospedale della Pieta and this setting for soprano solo is virtuosic. We believe that this particular work has never been performed in the United States.

Voci will perform in three beautiful venues intended for this repertoire, accompanied by the Jubilate Baroque Orchestra performing on period instruments. In keeping with Voci’s commitment to music written for, or by, women, all of the works performed in this concert were originally written for women’s voices.
