Viking Male Chorus gets new director

Mary Schmidt of Jamestown has been selected to be the new music director of the Viking Male Chorus and Damkoren.

She started in her new position at the chorus’ rehearsal on Feb. 13.

The following members of the Chorus were elected officers on Jan. 9: Mike Yager and Jim Gardner, co-presidents; Kathy Gourley, vice president; Joyce Lapham, secretary; Amy Stenta, treasurer; John Oberg, assistant treasurer and Ron Wilcox, librarian.

The Viking Male Chorus and Damkoren of Jamestown are community based and associated with the Ingjald Lodge No.65, International Order of Vikings, Jamestown and are members of the American Union of Swedish Singers. The groups meet weekly from September through May to prepare for a spring concert, the Scandinavian Summer Festival concert and Christmas concerts for local retirement homes.
