Imperial city of Huế is waiting for choirs
From December 12 to 16, 2012 the Vietnamese city of Huế welcomes many choirs from the home country and abroad for the 2nd Vietnam International Choir Competition 2012. Following last year’s event in Hoi An it’s the second choir competition of this kind in Vietnam’s history.
Huế City is located in the central part of Vietnam. Huế has always been considered the fulcrum of Vietnam’s two rice baskets, the Red river delta and the Mekong delta. Many historic monuments are evidence of the eventful history of the old imperial city, and attest to the former high culture. Inside the citadel was a forbidden purple city. Originally it contained more than 40 buildings where only the emperors and few chosen people were granted access, following the example of the Forbidden City in Beijing. Today, little of its buildings remained. The main landmark of Huế City is the Perfume River with the old city and the Citadel. In 1993 Huế has earned a place in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.
INTERKULTUR is proud to present the second international choir competition in Vietnam’s history. After the 1st edition hosted in the City of Hoi An in 2011, INTERKULTUR is now cooperating with the Vietnamese Central Government, with the Provincial Government of Thừa Thiên and the City Government of Huế. It’s another possibility for choirs of the world to be part of a very special competition.
