Version 5.0 of the Christian Virtual Hymnal has just been released. It provides highly customizable, transposable sheet music for over 3,800 public domain versions of hymns taken mainly from modern hymnals (e.g., Celebration Hymnal, Hymnal for Worship and Celebration, 1991 Baptist Hymnal, New National Baptist Hymnal – 21st Century Edition, Christian Life Hymnal). It also contains around 170 SATB spirituals from John W. Work’s American Negro Songs, and a full orchestral version of Handel’s Messiah.
Features include:
- Transpose to any key.
- Reorder and/or delete any verses.
- Display as SATB, lead sheets, tablature, shape notes or chord charts.
- Extract any combination of parts.
- Scale to any size and automatically re-format and justify.
- Export verses only to text file
- Play as MIDI file
For instance, any available computer font and size can be used for verses. So to help accommodate older folk with diminished vision, words can be made larger and then the music can be automatically re-castoff and justified to accommodate that change.
This software is available for both Windows and the Mac. More complete information is provided (including a list of all included music and a free fully-functional evaluation version) at
