Hundreds of girls and women, ages 5-40, will join forces on the stage of Yale University’s Woolsey Hall for a spectacular performance commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the United Girls’ Choir and Elm City Girls’ Choir on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 4:00pm. Alumnae of these renowned choirs will be traveling from all around the country to be a part of this unique concert, which will feature well-loved traditional selections as well as several new works composed specifically for this occasion. Saecula Women’s Choir will make a guest appearance.
United Girls’ Choir (UGC) is Connecticut’s leading provider of choral ensembles for girls, serving over 550 students, ages 6-18, from 40 towns and 150 schools throughout the state. UGC has chapters based in Branford, Cheshire, Clinton, Hamden, Killingworth, Madison, Milford, North Haven, New Haven, and Shelton, with additional chapters under development in other communities. The program’s curriculum focuses on the cultivation of leadership skills, musicianship, confidence, and musical literacy, while emphasizing the importance of sisterhood, teamwork, commitment, integrity, and respect. Founded in 1993, The Elm City Girls’ Choir (ECGC) is the premier ensemble of the United Girls’ Choir network. ECGC provides opportunities for talented young musicians from all around Connecticut to develop their skills as singers, conductors, and leaders in a rigorous, conservatory-like environment. The group has performed with major orchestras at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and on concert tours in China, Italy, England, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
Saecula Women’s Choir provides opportunities for alumnae of the Elm City Girls’ Choir and other experienced adult singers from throughout Connecticut to make music together in a challenging yet relaxed atmosphere. The group is dedicated to cultivating leadership, building community, and raising funds to support music education programs.
