MIDLAND, MI — Having a career in music locally is a bit like creating a beautiful patchwork quilt. Teaching, performing, directing, arranging, and composing are major components for three Midland musicians. When you ask them about their musical life, their dedication and passion are immediately obvious.
“It’s not a 9-5 job. It’s 24/7 in your head all the time. But I love it,” Hohmeyer said. He does lots of special arrangements of music for the voices or instruments he’s working with for each particular performance. He said that one of his career highlights was being commissioned by the MCFTA to arrange five Beatles tunes inspired by George Martin to be presented at the center’s 40th anniversary special event in 2011. “I was like a ‘pig in slop’ conducting (my arrangements).”
