SYDNEY — MARK COLVIN: There are plenty of choirs in Australia – professional and amateur – but a new one in Sydney's CBD is a choir with a difference. The Sydney Sings group brings together people from all walks of life once a week to sing, from CEOs to people who live on the streets. The choir gave its first public performance this week, as Lindy Kerin reports.
LINDY KERIN: Every week this group of singers get together at the Uniting Church in Sydney's Pitt Street. They begin every session with this song, but this week the Sydney Sings group have an audience. It's their very first public performance. The group's energetic conductor Liz Lecoanet says Sydney Sings is about connecting people.
LIZ LECOANET: It's a good time for all. It's where anybody, everybody is welcome to come and just sing. It's that simple. And the choir is made up of this incredibly diverse group of people from all walks of life, all different ages, backgrounds, some people don't speak English, some people are without a home, some people are living in shelters, some people have yachts, some people are overseas tonight on business.
