LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Last week, a Carroll County woman who wrote a big check for a student who needed it.
Anthony battled autism to become an All-State choral singer. But he is being raised by his grandparents who don’t have much money, and he learned the hard way that very few scholarships exist for students with autism.
His immediate and extended family have cobbled together whatever money they could. Last week, they received a donation in the mail from Carroll — a check for $1,000.
Recalled Anthony’s grandmother, Judy Michael, “When I opened that check, I was blown away.”
And the student himself? “I’m entirely grateful for it,” Anthony said. “In every sense of the word, I’m grateful for it. Sometimes I just feel so little in comparison to the hearts of those around me.”
