ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — The Stoney Creek High School chamber choir
sang its way to $10,000 in Magic 105.1’s Glee Club contest.

Local schools faced off Nov. 13, singing and dancing at the
Stautzenberger Institute in Allen Park, where Stoney Creek was
chosen the winner based on its performance and online votes.

According to Stoney Creek director of choirs Brandon Ulrich, the
group of 38 performed “In a Night of My Late Sickness,” which he
wrote. The group premiered the song at the American Choral
Director’s Convention two weeks prior to the contest date.

“We already had the music ready, so there wasn’t much
preparation specifically for this event,” Ulrich said. “(We
entered) because we wanted to win $10,000 for the program.”

The first-place prize included $10,000 for the school’s
performing arts program, a recording session at Harmonie Park
Studios and the chance to perform at the tree lighting ceremony at
Campus Martius Park Nov. 19.

In order to make it to the top 10, interested groups were
required to post a video of themselves on YouTube and complete an
entry form. Staff at Magic 105.1 chose the top 10 entries, then the
public was asked to vote for their favorite video from Oct. 29
through Nov. 12.
