SPIRITUALS AND THE BLUES
MYSTIC CHORALE led by Nick Page
May 21 @ 7:30 pm & May 22 @ 3:30 pm
Tremont Temple Baptist Church
88 Tremont Street, Boston, MA
Tickets: $18 General Admission
Nick Page’s Mystic Chorale celebrates the blue side of the Spirituals and the spiritual side of the blues. The Spirituals range from old school Jubilee style, highly improvised with amazing constantly changing textures, to traditional homophonic hymn style. Nick Page, always looking for the universal message in all music, has combined Motherless Child with MY Yiddesh Mame, two songs of loss from different traditions. Guest soloists and an inspiring band will rock the house. There is nothing normal about a Mystic Chorale concert. Dancing in the aisles and audience sing-alongs are the norm. Slam poet Regie Gibson will explode with his piece God Is a Blues Man.
