Greetings, All.
If next year you’re looking for a holiday concert showstopper/headliner piece, may I suggest “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” set to melodies of beloved carols and, for the last verse, a spoof of the opening movement of Bach’s “Magnificat in D” ?
Performed all around the San Francisco Bay Area, most recently this month by both San Jose and Monterey Symphonic Choruses, the 7-minute piece always stops the show cold. Very big responses. Choral groups and directors have loved putting this fun piece together.
Arranged for more advanced choral groups, there are 4 versions available: SATB; SAB; SSAA; SA. The original version is accompanied by 1 piano 4 hands. There is also a single pianist accomp. version available; but the expanded 4-hand version, available as a separate entity, is recommended, as the piece is challenging. There is also a fully orchestrated version.
You may hear PSFS singing the piece by going into my Web site, kenmalucelli.com, clicking on Holiday & Seasonal, scrolling down to title and clicking on the blue play tab.
Sample pages of the score are also available for perusal.
Happy Holidays, All!
