In March, 2010, Spalding was selected to be SCC’s Artist in Residence because of her flexibility both as a singer and bassist. While in Savannah, she visited and performed at local schools, talked with both choral and band students, and put on a show at the Lucas Theater. There she performed with the Savannah Children’s Choir and other local artists, including pianist Eric Jones, drummer Quentin Baxter and percussionist Tony Clarke.
While here, she was intrigued with the sound of the Savannah Children’s Choir, and invited the children to sing back up on one of her upcoming projects. She returned in May 2010 and members of the 2009-2010 SCC spent a day recording with Elevated Basement Studio’s Kevin Rose at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
