The Sarah MacDonald Choral Series — Music for the church [by women]
The only way to have more women composers’ music used in our church services and choir performances is to find good compositions and then program them. But these anthems have been hard to find.
Selah is pleased to announce a new series of anthems for the church composed solely by women. Sarah MacDonald is editor of this liturgical music series, and she is renowned as a conductor, composer, and organist. MacDonald serves as Fellow and Director of Music at Selwyn College in Cambridge, and director of the Girl Choristers at Ely Cathedral. The series of individual octavos will include anthems for all seasons, and includes music from long-established composers and the first publications of young composers as well. A variety of voicings will be published semi-annually, so that all choirs will find something for their own services. Many of these titles will also be useful for collegiate and community choruses. The first set of 12 anthems was published in January, 2020, with contributions from eight women: Cecilia McDowall, Eleanor Daley, Stephanie Martin, Sarah MacDonald, Sarah Cattley, Elizabeth Coxhead, Elizabeth Kimble, and Annabel Rooney, composers from the U.S., Canada, and England.
