SACRA/PROFANA Feb 23-24 Building Bridges between Nations: Krenek, Brittan, and Rilke

February 21, 2018 by Carol Manifold Leave a Comment

San Diego-based professional vocal ensemble SACRA/PROFANA’s next program will feature works by Austrian composer Ernst Krenek and British composer Benjamin Britten. Both men were part of a flood of composers, musicians, and others who came to the U.S. from Europe in the years before and during World War II.

We will feature sections of Krenek’s profound Lamentations, written for the fallen city of Vienna, and Britten’s Sacred & Profane, a collection of eight lyrics based on medieval English poems. It was composed in 1975.

Performance Dates:
• Friday, February 23, Mingei International Museum, Balboa Park
• Saturday, February 24, Oceanside Museum of Art, Oceanside
