Reverend Ronald Corp, 61, is conductor and musical director of the Highgate Choral Society, and has been with them since 1985 when it had around 80 members.
It has now swollen to around 200 and Mr Corp has been credited with building the choir in stature and standard, the group now singing at venues including St Paul’s Cathedral and the Royal Festival Hall.
He said: “It’s a wonderful honour. It’s a fantastic thing to have. It’s very nice that your colleaguesand the people around you have obviously appreciated what you do. You feel very humble really.”
Asked what has kept him there for more than 26 years, he said: “We’re always striving for something new and different. I think that’s why I’ve been there for so long.”
Mr Corp, of Braintree, Essex, is also a composer, founder and artistic director of the New London Orchestra and musical director of New London Children’s Choir.
