Robyn Lana Presented with CCM’s Distinguished Alumni Award

June 15, 2012 by Mary Kay Koehler Leave a Comment

On Saturday, June 9, 2012, Dean Peter Landgren of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music bestowed upon Robyn Lana the CCM Distinguished Alumni Award for 2012, thus adding her to a list of alumni from CCM who have made a tremendous impact on music and creativity in many fields in the region and beyond. Lana was asked to address the graduating class for 3 to 4 minutes about how the impact her educational experience and service at CCM helped shaped her life and career.

Robyn Reeves Lana is the Founder, Managing Artistic Director and Conductor of the Cincinnati Children’s Choir, Ensemble-in-Residence at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. At CCM, she sponsors undergraduate interns with the children’s choir and mentors graduate choral conducting students. Regularly serving as a guest conductor, she has directed international, state and regional honor and festival choirs including the ACDA Southern Division Honor Choir in 2012. Her choirs have performed for State, Regional, and National professional development conferences. In demand as a clinician, she has presented workshops on choral artistry and vocal development for Music Educators National Conference regional conventions, Ohio and Indiana Music Educators Associations, Tennessee MEA, Mississippi MEA, Northeast Ohio Education Association, and Orff Schulwerk workshops. In addition, she has presented techniques for educating and performing chamber music for young children at the Chamber Music America National Convention.

Lana has published articles in the Choral Journal, Choristers Guild’s The Chorister, and Chamber Music America’s CMA Matters. She is also serving as an ACDA representative for the 2012 World Choir Games Music Advisory Committee. She is presently serving ACDA as National Chair for Children’s and Community Youth Choir Repertoire and Standards where she led the committee into new ways to serve membership by presenting a retreat specifically for children’s and community youth choir directors. The event, organized twice under Lana, is now a biennial conference offered by ACDA.

She earned both Bachelor and Master degrees in Music Education from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. With a focus in Choral Conducting, Lana earned a Cognate in Voice.

Other recipients of the prestigious CCM Distinguished Alumni Award include Richard Wesp, Michael Chertock, Ralph and Patricia Corbett, Joan and Jack Strader, Louise and Louis Nippert, Ward Swingle, John Alexander, Carmen DeLeone, and Steve Monder.
