Many interesting compositions were submitted.
Together with the Carl Orff Foundation, Musicalion.com will conduct the second international Diabelli Contest. It should be a piece for mixed choirs, though this time no waltz for a change, but lyrics of a chosen theme. Wilfried Hiller, the musical director of the Diabelli Contest, remembered the Wessobrunner Prayer cherished by his teacher Carl Orff, who in turn put it to musical notes. The prayer should now be set to music again. Carl Orff’s music served as inspiration in the competition.
The theme has really stuck a chord with composers from all around the world! It’s wonderful what the composers from different cultural backgrounds have come up with. A total of 120 works have been submitted. All works are freely available and in the form of notes and an audio sample
Now comes the question: Which do you like best?
The public nominated the first five participants. Another five pieces are selected by the jury. These nominated ten will be premiered by renowned choirs on 15 July 2016 for the Finale at the Allerheiligen Hofkirche (Court Church of All Saints) in Munich Residenz (Munich Residence).
The jury consists of Wilfried Hiller (Composer), Franz Hummel (Composer), Pia Praetorius (Cantor), Susanne Vongries (Management for Choir of Bavarian Broadcast) and Karl Zepnik (Head of the Bavarian Music Academy in Marktoberdorf, Germany).
The online reviewers will raffle off multiple licenses for music notation programs such as Finale, Capella and Primus.
