Push The Boats Out is a 3-part sea shanty inspired by Christopher Wood’s painting “The Fisherman’s Farewell”. It was first composed as a single line song with assorted instrumental accompaniment for family drop-in workshops at the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield, UK where that painting was on display. I thought the song lent itself perfectly to a male voice choir and so made that arrangement, but was then asked for a high voices version too, so it’s available as both.
It is in a lively, rugged style, rhythmic and pushing along to suit the sailors in the background who are indeed dragging the boats along the sandy beaches.
I do not have a recording of the version for low voices, but it is essentially the same as the high voice version, just an octave lower!

I hope you enjoy the song.
Thank you for reading thus far!
