FRANKLIN, IN — Song by song, the Voices of Franklin relived the varying styles and selection of Americana music. Members swung through mournful folk songs such as “Danny Boy” and inspiring gospel tunes such as “Amazing Grace.”
They moved into the frantic twang of “Rocky Top” and George Gershwin’s jazzy “Summertime.” For more than 35 years, the group Voices of Franklin has been a Johnson County musical tradition. What started as a group of church choirs singing hymns together has expanded to the entire community. With selections including jazz, folk, gospel and classical, the choir has re-envisioned itself as the county’s foremost vocal group.
