ROCHESTER, MN — René Clausen, a well-known composer and director of choral activities at Concordia College, recently found himself taking his own advice regarding Michael Culloton.

Clausen, who served as Culloton’s primary mentor and teacher at Concordia, recommended Culloton for the position of artistic director for Choral Arts Ensemble and Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota eight years ago.  “I told them if you hire this man, you won’t be sorry,” Clausen said. “He is someone who in his lifetime will be among the leaders in choral music in our country.”

When it came time for Clausen to hire a new faculty member at Concordia, he remembered those words.  “Everything I would have said about him back then, I’m saying to myself,” Clausen said.
