Most people don’t train to become a choral accompanist; they fall into it because they can play the piano. However, choral accompanying goes beyond playing the notes on an instrument; it is a specialized skill that takes years to develop, usually “on the job.” There is no Choral Accompanying School or degree program; in fact, there are very few resources dedicated solely to the choral accompanist.
To meet the need for ongoing professional development for choral accompanists, I have begun to assemble a library of resources online. From articles on what the job entails to on-demand workshops on How to Read Open Score, there is sure to be something that encourages, equips, and inspires pianists to grow in this unique skill.
