Santa Ana, CA – Pacific Chorale Artistic Director John Alexander and President and CEO Kelly Ruggirello announce the November 7, 2010 release of the organization’s newest recording, Pacific Chorale Live: Rachmaninov Vespers. Recorded during the 140-voice Pacific Chorale’s May 23, 2010 performance of the Russian masterwork, this is the Chorale’s tenth recording, and the first to feature the full ensemble since 2005.
Rachmaninov based his All-Night Vigil, Op. 37 of 1915 (better known to American audience as Vespers) on the znamenny chant of the Russian Orthodox church, orchestrating the voices of the choir to create an amazing array of musical colors around the chant melodies. In his liner notes for the recording, Dr. Gordon Paine writes, “Without knowing it, Rachmaninov had written the last great musical work for the Russian Orthodox church—arguably the most splendid in its history.”
Pacific Chorale Live: Rachmaninov Vespers will be available through Pacific Chorale’s award-winning website at http://www.pacificchorale.org/recordings/ beginning Monday, November 8, 2010. A release on iTunes will be forthcoming shortly.
