PICKERINGTON, OH — A Pickerington resident has been honored with the Columbus Symphony’s 2012 Music Educator Award. The award honors individuals who make a difference in the community through a dedication to music education and their efforts to promote a greater understanding and appreciation for music education.
Three nominees were selected to receive a 2012 Music Educator Award in the categories of elementary, secondary and community education.
John S. Long, choral director at Pickerington High School Central, received the secondary education award.
Long will receive a $2,500 grant to be spent at his discretion on a broad range of music education endeavors. Long is in his 38th year as the director of vocal music and chairman of the music department at Pickerington High School Central. His entire professional career has been spent educating high school students in the Pickerington Local School District.
