Obituary: Dr. Gordon H. Lamb

March 5, 2012 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

Dr. Gordon H. Lamb, choral conductor and the former Director of the Music Division at the University of Texas – San Antonio, passed away on Feb 9, 2012 in Columbia, MO.  Dr. Lamb was the author of Choral Techniques, published by William C Brown, now in its third edition.  He authored numerous books, articles and musical compositions. As a music professor and choral conductor, he conducted concerts and festivals in 17 states and across Europe.

For many decades he served as a university administrator, including a brief, but highly influential term as Interim President of the University of Missouri System.  He spoke out publicly against a ballot initiative in MO limiting the university's academic freedom in areas like stem cell research, and used the influence of his office to create a new alumni support network, as well as state-wide projects for elderly care, especially in rural areas.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, three sons, and five grandchildren.
