Breathe on me Day – SSAA and piano (opt. cello) (premeiring this version at the GMEC In-Service Conference in Athens, GA, 1/28/16, by Le Belle Voci, NGCSU, director John Broman.)
NOTE: Text is by Dr. Robert J. Smithdas (deaf/blind). When I composed this work, I envisioned a silhouette of an individual at the summit of a great mountain. Behind it all their pain, sorrow, struggles, and burdens once carried, shed below. But love, encouragement, strength, endurance, hope, patience… They were the light which burst forth from its innermost being, reaching out in every direction, beyond the sky! This work is dedicated to two dear friends who triumphantly won their battle with breast cancer. It is a most fitting work for programming repitoire themed around encouragement, fighting the fight, winning the battle, endurance, hope and strength or programs focusing on health issues such as cancer, or challenging times in a changing world.

NOTE: Another R.J. Smithdas text. This work depicts a picture of spring as he weaves into it his sense of touch and smell. He senses the rythym of the earth even in his own deep silence and darkness with the touch of the wind, a leaf, the fragrance of lilacs…. wonders of spring from a very different perspective.
