Still looking for a big, audience-friendly closer for your women’s choir’s holiday concerts that’s a sure-fire crowd pleaser? I’ve just reworked my SATB setting of the famous poem into SSAA + piano. The original version has been done all around the SF Bay Area over the past few years, and two new cities (San Jose, Monterey) will be added this coming season. You can hear the original setting by going into my Web site, kenmalucelli.com, clicking on Holiday & Seasonal, scrolling down to title and clicking on play tab. What audiences (and singers) enjoy about the piece is, the poem is set to melodies of beloved holiday carols and songs and ends with a wink at the opening movement of Bach’s “Magnificat in D.” It’s a bit tricky, here and there, but the challenge is fun and educational.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS, ALL!
