Contemporary poet Laura Foley’s text for Returning describes waiting and watching for the return of wild geese–or any beloved thing–each passing year. Trumbore’s setting of this text features a simple, optional audience refrain that recurs three times. Returning was commissioned and premiered by Minnesota-based ensemble Magpies & Ravens, a chorus combining talented high school-student singers with professionals.
