Premiered and commissioned by the Washington International Chorus in 2018, Rubin’s new work is an elegaic and powerful rendering of the ancient history, myths and cultural significance of the olive tree. At turns lyrical and rhythmic, the piece is in three parts, with a duration of around 11 minutes. The work can be performed by a good amateur choir and includes a part for optional hand percussion (AR New Music Publications). Listen to the score at soundcloud.com/annarubinmusic.
