Composer’s Notes: Today, in the turmoil of religious and cultural skirmishes, I feel that peace should be the primary aspect of every conscious person. Being an Orthodox Christian, I wrote this piece combining some traditions of modern orthodox music with imitations of some early catholic chants.
The stylistics of the work generally reflects some very influential streams of sacred music of the neighboring Ukrainian area. Some listeners may hear a bit of Igor Stravinsky, some would catch the echo of Arvo Part’s creations. My intention was to write this prayer in a more traditional style, rather than trying to be radically inventive. The main goal of this choral work is to spread the message of peace in a way easily perceived by everyone.
