‘Because the Lord is Risen for Thee’ was written for Yorktown United Methodist Church, New York and first performed there on Easter Sunday this year. It is set for SATB Choir (with an optional Soprano Solo), 2 Trumpets, Trombone and Organ. The piece is based on the plainchant hymn ‘Veni Creator Spiritus’ which is first heard played by the brass before the choir enters with the latin text.
The second section poses a series of questions to Mary. The final section (from where the title of the piece emerges) is a paen of praise for Christ’s Resurrection on Easter morning. The plainchant ‘Veni Creator Spiritus’ is heard, sung by the men, in the final few measures.
If you are interested in a work for your choir, let me know also.
