My new composition Go Lovely, Red Red Rose is set for TTBB chorus, a cappella. The difficulty level for this piece would be mid-medium difficulty due to the meter changes, sparse divisi, and key changes.
This piece juxtaposes two verses from the famous poems Go Lovely Rose by Edmund Waller & O, My Luve’s Like a Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns.
I originally wrote this piece with a high school men’s chorus in mind.
The story that I had in mind while composing this piece is one of a boy who holds a rose and is thinking what he would like to say to the girl when he gives it to her. He is daydreaming of this encounter with the girl. The boy goes on to describe his love and how it is like a Red Red Rose and that when he sends the rose [Go Lovely Rose] that it should carry this message from him to her.
If anyone would be interested in a perusal copy and a midi audio file I am able to send those out.
Thank you,
Alan Davis
