I’ve recently composed a new SATB arrangement of “Jerusalem of Gold”, the widely beloved Israeli folk song by Naomi Shemer. The song’s mixture of serenity and melancholy conveys a deep and loving awe before the natural beauty and enormously complex history of the city. In this arrangement I have attempted to paint the multifaceted nature of that awe using intertwined and varying contrapuntal combinations of voices.
The arrangement is about 4 1/2 minutes in length, for SATB a cappella with no divisi, tonally straightforward and suitable for high school, college, or community choirs; the Hebrew lyrics are presented in a simple transliteration. The arrangement rights are cleared through Tresona. Please contact me at nweininger (at) pobox (dot) com if interested in performing this arrangement and I can provide sample scores and MIDI files.
Thanks,
Nicholas Weininger
