Nashville Singers Announces 2013 Advisory Board

18 Middle Tennessee Community Leaders Support Noble Cause

NASHVILLE, TN – The Nashville Singers, Inc. assembled their first advisory board at the beginning of 2012. Interest in the great work of this community-focused nonprofit is rapidly expanding and so is their advisory board. On September 10, the governing board of directors of Nashville Singers formally approved new additions to this important advisory group, including:

Nashville Singers is a 501c3 nonprofit performing arts organization founded in November of 2008. The group’s philanthropic mission is to enrich lives through support of music education in our schools and the community. To support this mission, this male chorus funds music education grants to area schools and college scholarships for students pursuing a music education degree. Other music education programs include A cappella Academy, a free singing lessons program for students and adults, as well middle and high school master classes on “the art of a cappella singing.”

Carol Crittenden, Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator for Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) has stated, “The Nashville Singers have not only been an incredible financial support for grant recipients in Metro Schools, but the members have also given of their time and talents to support our music students.  This is the type of commitment and partnership we greatly value.”

According to Arne Duncan, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, “The arts significantly boost student achievement, reduce discipline problems, and increase the odds that students will go on to graduate from college. Arts education is essential to stimulating the creativity and innovation that will prove critical to young Americans competing in a global economy.”

“I’m inspired by what continues to come out of conversations with such a wide-ranging and esteemed group of passionate people,” added Board Chair Sloan Yarborough. “Assembling this group of thought leaders is the culmination of many hours of tireless work by our Executive Director, Todd Wilson. We are grateful to Todd, and have already begun realizing tremendous benefits. “It is important for our board to hear from different voices and different sectors of our community, from well-connected people who believe in our mission to support music education in our schools and the community.”

In less than four years, this ensemble has grown from four to 16 singers, learned 42 songs, released their first CD, completed 45 performances for 27 organizations across Tennessee, and produced two successful concert events which attracted a combined 600+ attendees from 38 cities in eight states across the USA. Their concert audiences have ranged in size from a few hundred to 4000 people.

The Nashville Singers annual Season of Harmony concert will be held on November 17, at 7:00pm at Hillsboro High School. Tickets are on sale now.

The group’s repertoire spans many genres, including popular music, Americana, swing, gospel, sacred, songs from Broadway and movies, and a large selection of Christmas holiday favorites. They cover the work of many artists including, the Beatles, Bobby Darin, Duke Ellington, Michael Jackson, Roy Orbison, and the Turtles. The singers are all volunteers, range in age from teenagers to retirees, and travel from five different counties throughout Middle Tennessee to be a part of the chorus.
