MusicEase Software has recently released MusicEase version 10, its intelligent music notation software. MusicEase is the driver of various transposable and customizable music packages including Integrity Music’s Worship Software series and Worship Leader Assistant, the Shout Music Manager, Brentwood-Benson’s “The Praise And Worship Song Book With Over 600 Songs” and MusicEase Software’s own Christian Virtual Hymnal.
Because MusicEase generally positions music notational elements correctly (using AI techniques), users need not be aware of music copyist rules to obtain publication quality printed music.
MusicEase functionality includes true transposition, automatic castoff*, takes lyric widths into account when justifying systems, and is scalable – features generally not available with other notation software.
MusicEase works much like a word processor so users can quickly learn to use it. E.g., pressing the “a” key enters the note “a”, pressing “A” (shift-A) enters the “a” an octave higher, pressing the Return key starts a new system, pressing the backspace key when the cursor is at the beginning of a system appends that system to the end of the previous system, etc. Barlines are automatically inserted according to the current time signature. Cut, copy & paste work just as in a word processing program.
MusicEase is available for both Windows and the Mac. Educational pricing is available.
A free evaluation version is available via http://www.musicease.com/download.htm.

* Castoff is the term used for determining where to break systems so each system, including the last, has roughly the same density of notes. It is somewhat analogous to reformatting a paragraph in a word processor.
