MusicEase Software has released version 10.1 of the MusicEase intelligent music notation editor. MusicEase is a true notation editor and not just a paint program with bells and whistles related to music notation*. As such, it features true transposition, intelligent cast-off (redetermination of system breaks so that each system has roughly the same density), the ability to switch between single stemmed and mixed single/double stemmed notation, plus additional functionality not provided by other notation “editors”.
The MusicEase notation engine is the underlying driver for the Christian Virtual Hymnal 15K which provides transposable, highly customizable sheet music for over 15,000 hymns, Handel’s Messiah (based on the Chrysander edition) and Mozart’s Requiem. It also drives HymnWrite which allows one to create a new hymn by supplying just the text and choosing from over 5,000 tunes to connect the text to. All music from both the Christian Virtual Hymnal 15K and HymnWrite can optionally be imported into MusicEase for complete editing. Music created with MusicEase can generally be imported into the Christian Virtual Hymnal 15K where it is then amenable to all the customization functionality there.
MusicEase comes in 2 versions: MusicEase standard version and MusicEase Professional. The price of MusicEase (standard) has remained the same at $79.95 for over 30 years. We have now decided to release it for free. It can be downloaded via the Download page of the MusicEase web site.

* One indicator is the amount of user input required, Another relates to file size. The size of a file for a piece of music created by a paint program will be much larger than that of the file for the same piece when created by an (intelligent) editor. One reason for this is that the paint program must save much more information about the positions of everything. When we were providing MusicEase versions of sheet music to Integrity Music so they could support transposition (Integrity was using Finale for all its music), Philip Manwaring (at the time VP of Digital Sales & Chief Technology Officer at Integrity Music) noted that the size of Finale versions of Integrity Praise-Worship music was about 10 times as large as the MusicEase versions for pieces that rendered exactly the same.
