Meredith Bowen: Battle Creek Girls Chorus

July 26, 2012 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

By Josh Holdenbaum

BATTLE CREEK, MI — While one director is about to take her
final bow as the head of two local choruses, she’s also getting
ready for the next movement of her life.

Meredith Bowen, director of both the Battle Creek Girls Chorus
and Community Chorus, will step down from both at the end of August
to pursue her Doctorate of Musical Arts at Michigan State
University. She currently lives in Lansing.

“I’ve always wanted to conduct,” Bowen said. “I sang in the
choir my second year of being an undergrad, and I knew from that
moment on I wanted to conduct. I really wanted to teach, too, but
you have to get a doctorate to teach at a college, so this is a
goal I’ve had for about 16 years now.
