Dr. Marty Wheeler Burnett earned the 2011 Nebraska Choral Directors Association (NCDA) Outstanding Choral Director Award on Friday, Nov. 18.
Dr. Burnett is an Associate Professor of Music and Director of Fine Arts at College of Saint Mary. She is also the Director of Music at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
The NCDA Outstanding Choral Director Award is given annually since 1986, honoring those professionals who have made a commitment to singers in Nebraska and taught for ten years or more.She specializes in choral music, choral conducting, organ, music history, and music theory.
Award winners are exemplars of teachers who maintain high performance and literature standards and who actively participate in ACDA/NCDA activities through their attendance and leadership.
They are models of those who actively promote choral music in the community.
Within her position at CSM, Dr. Burnett is the director of the CSM Chorus and CSM Singers. Dr. Burnett founded a community chorus, Musica Sacra, in 2004.
Under the leadership of Dr. Burnett, CSM choirs and student musicians have performed across Nebraska, toured Italy, participated in a service learning trip to New Orleans, and performed twice at Carnegie Hall in New York.
