The Lutheran Youth Choir International is returning to Germany this July for the fifth time since its founding in 2005. For it’s Festival of Global Vocal Music, July 12-25, 2017, American and Canadian high school and college students selected by audition will join in singing with German students, living and rehearsing together at Schloss Mansfeld, a 14-century fully-restored castle in Martin Luther’s boyhood town of Mansfeld. Presenting a Service of Evening Prayer for Peace composed by the choir’s Founding Conductor, Philip Spencer, the choir will perform in schools and churches in several Central German cities and towns including Berlin, Erfurt, Brandis, Torgau and Mansfeld. Choral literature in five different languages will include works by Mendelssohn, Jennings, Dilworth, Smallwood, and Schalk. In addition to rehearsing and singing together, the choir members will be touring significant Bach and Luther sites such as the Wartburg Castle, St. Thomas Church, and the Bach House in observance of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation in Germany in 2017.
