ENTERPRISE, AL — After 27 years as the Enterprise High School choral instructor and director of the award-winning Encores Show Choir, John Baker has announced his retirement.
Under Baker’s direction, the Encores Show Choir has become the most successful show choir in the state and one of the most successful programs in the Southeast United States. The Encores have won numerous competitions throughout the country, been on five European tours, played in New York three times, toured China, toured Hawaii, and performed at the White House on two separate occasions.
Baker, an EHS alumni himself, inherited the program from his former teacher Randy Holms, who started the Encores in 1982. Baker was honored this past weekend with a retirement celebration and a choral reunion.
