FORT WAYNE, IN — Marshall White walks back and forth. He stops and closes his eyes to listen. Then he lifts his head, opens his eyes and scans the room. White is a large man with long arms and massive hands, a bald head and an inscrutable face. The young people in the Voices of Unity Youth Choir are singing loud and growing nervous. Does he like it? Is it good enough?
Two years ago this choir from Fort Wayne, Ind., surprised the choral world by getting invited to the 2010 World Choir Games in Shaoxing, China. Then it shocked it again by earning the most points in the Gospel and Spiritual category, making the group arguably the best in the world.
