Carl “Chip” Stam died on May 1, 2011.
Chip served as the founding director of the Institute for Christian Worship at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary since 2000, where he was Professor of Church Music and Worship. Chip received his B.A. and M.M. from UNC-CH, before ministering from 1972-1981 as the Pastor of Worship & Music at the Chapel Hill Bible Church (CHBC). From 1981-1991 he was the Director of Choral Music at the University of Notre Dame, then returned to Chapel Hill Bible Church from 1991-2000. Since 2002, Chip served as the Minister of Music & Worship at Clifton Baptist Church. His weekly devotion taught and encouraged thousands since 1995 (www.wqotw.org).
He leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Doris; his children, Michael, Martin and Clara; as well as his mother and siblings.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Alumni Chapel of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary 2825 Lexington Road. Private burial Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Memorials to Clifton Baptist Church or Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
