Royzell L. Dillard was a faculty member at Hampton for 25 years. He served as the Assistant Professor of Music, the Director of University Choirs and the Minister of Music at Hampton University’s Memorial Church.
His cause of death was not released. His age was not included in the release.
Dillard earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Hampton Institute in 1983 and the Master of Arts degree in music education from Hampton University in 1988, according to the release. Dillard was a member of the American Choral Director’s Association, the Inter-Collegiate Music Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Since 2000, Dillard has served as the Co-Music Director of theHampton University Ministers’ Conference and Choir Directors’ and Organists’ Guild Workshop.
By Friday night, a Facebook tribute page created for Dillard had 305 members. On the website, someone registered under the name Starr Young Dixon wrote: “Most of you are students and have personal, one on one memories and love for Mr. Dillard, but my tribute is as a parent of two children who have been blessed by this man. He nourished your minds, creativity and soul. He also nourished many of your bodies with his tremendous Thanksgiving menu!”
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at noon in Odgen Hall.
