Written by Will Lopes, Gloria is a complete musical setting of the mass incorporating new
musical treatment to the “ordinary” of the liturgy (Kyrie, Glory to God, Gospel
Acclamation, Eucharistic Acclamations and Lamb of God). There are additional
musical settings for a call to worship, gathering and final blessing. This setting focuses on
two main Brazilian musical styles: the Bossa-Nova (Brazilian Jazz) characterized by
syncopation, dissonances and light textures accompanied by a jazz ensemble (Piano, bass,
drums) and the Baião (Afro-Brazilian) based on the mixolydian scale, this style is
characterized by a mixed of Indie music elements and African rhythms including percussive
instruments also featuring accordion, triangle, drums and flute. Gloria is written for SATB
and congregation with optional strings parts.
