Genevans conductor bows out after 31 years

BEAVER FALLS, PA — Surrounded by students past and present, Robert Copeland took his final bow Saturday night as the longtime conductor of The Genevans.

“Dr. Bob,” as he is affectionately called by students and singers, is retiring after 31 years as a music professor and leader of the renowned student choir at Geneva College. His final spring performance Saturday brought together more than 130 Genevans alumni, who joined the 72-voice choir for a concert of both sacred and secular “Choral Favorites” from Copeland’s 41 tours with the group.

On Friday, Copeland said he would likely have mixed feelings as he raised his baton for the last time. “Will I be feeling nostalgic? Yes. Sad? Yes. Thrilled at the people that are going to come back? Yes. Looking forward to the future? Yes,” he said.
