Lyric diction resources for the Fauré Requiem, op. 48, are now available in GALLIC LATIN, compiled and beautifully spoken by diction expert Bénédicte Jourdois (Curtis Institute & Manhattan School faculties). Fauré composed his Requiem between 1887 and 1890, before Pope Pius X published his “motu proprio” in 1904, in part requiring Italianate Latin to be used. Gallic Latin is what Fauré would have heard and would have meant to be heard in his Requiem. Available for purchase or by Ensemble Subscription. Hear an example here:
